The Trooper, Lichfield

The interior is 'L' shaped with the main leg of the 'L' being a modern extension housing the restaurant. There is a lounge area in the short leg of the 'L', but I did not go into this part of the pub - I was there to eat. It is done out in a modern, light style with wooden features. In atmosphere, it was very comfortable, and on a Friday night, it was very busy. Beerwise, it had Pedigree (a staple for the Lichfield area), Greene King IPA, Greene King Fireside and St Austell Tribute. I had the Fireside, a lovely dark beer - very nice for a Greene King offering. As I have said, Mrs Staal and I were here for the food. My God it was absolutely delicious and the service was superb. I really didn't want a pudding, but well, I forced one down. We liked it so much that we immediately booked a table for next Saturday when my sister-in-law and her husband are down from Aberdeen. I would have given this 10/10. But they had two Greene Kings on. Even though the one I had was very nice...
