Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Trooper

Modernised pub, of quite a size considering how small the village has become since the Romans left! The split-level, three-part beer garden (two sections of which are covered by a large awning) must also double the number of covers. With three of the four handpumps in use, I found Pedigree, Old Speckled Hen (£5.20) and Titanic Plum Porter being poured.

Soup Dragon left this review about Trooper Inn

A detached cream rendered pub and restaurant, with green paintwork and a large beer garden with benches.

The interior is open plan and in the modern bistro look. The lounge area is by the main entrance and encloses the new wood bar iteself. The decor is the different cloured plain wall look, with white, red, brown, green and beigey walls with pictures that look like bits of old patterned wallpaper. There were comfy chairs and tables with candles on and a part stone and part wood based floor. The restaurant bit extends from this lounge area and is in white with wooden roof trusses and high backed chairs. So, if you like this look i think you will love it here - i myself am a traditionalist, but i would come and eat here despite hating this kind of interior. Why? you may ask. Well, this place has had a succession of failed owners before and i think it has to change to try something different (its very different to the old pub i last visited 15 years ago, or so). The service was very friendly, not only that you could tell that the people there wanted to make it work and i really admire that. Next, i could always clear off to the beer garden after a meal (i havent eaten here yet, so cant comment on the food) and finally see the beer bit below. The clientele were mixed and mature - it seemed busy enough as well and the music was at a decent level and generic stuff. There was a TV, but not on.

Beer; tap stuff with Peroni and four real ale hanpulls; Pedgiree, GK IPA, White Horse Village Idiot and the local Shenstone Brewery's Three Spires - of which my half was fine. A decent choice - which will be better once the GK IPA goes (wink)

In summary, the interior will be loved by some and not by others (including me) but the place had a buzz and was prepared to go for a good choice of real ale. I will bring Mrs Soup here for dinner one night - but my gut feeling is that it would be worth it!

Good luck to you

Returned here to eat the other week. The food was really nice and the service very good. Holden's Golden Glow was on and well kept. It still isn't my kind of interior, but that is personal taste - otherwise i struggle to fault it.

General Staal left this review about Trooper Inn

The interior is 'L' shaped with the main leg of the 'L' being a modern extension housing the restaurant. There is a lounge area in the short leg of the 'L', but I did not go into this part of the pub - I was there to eat. It is done out in a modern, light style with wooden features. In atmosphere, it was very comfortable, and on a Friday night, it was very busy.

Beerwise, it had Pedigree (a staple for the Lichfield area), Greene King IPA, Greene King Fireside and St Austell Tribute. I had the Fireside, a lovely dark beer - very nice for a Greene King offering.

As I have said, Mrs Staal and I were here for the food. My God it was absolutely delicious and the service was superb. I really didn't want a pudding, but well, I forced one down. We liked it so much that we immediately booked a table for next Saturday when my sister-in-law and her husband are down from Aberdeen.

I would have given this 10/10. But they had two Greene Kings on. Even though the one I had was very nice...
