Queens Head Hotel, Windermere

This is a Robinsons pub, a genuinely old building which makes a big deal of its "famous four poster bar". The bar itself is a fine piece of work, with carvings reminiscent of church misericords, and there's a stone flagged floor and a couple of fireplaces. One of these had a roaring log fire when I visited recently, and it was pleasant sitting here on the cushion-strewn settles. On the bar was a selection of Robinsons beers, including Old Tom and the seasonal Tom and Berry, plus a couple of the old Hartleys beers that used to be brewed down the road in Ulverston. The beer is in good condition here, but a little on the pricey side. This is not a typical Lake District pub, being slightly on the posh side, though that's not to say walkers with boots are unwelcome. For those staying the night, there are apparently four-poster beds too.

Upmarket roadside small hotel, posh and comfortable, but priced accordingly. Features a 'four poster bar' canopy. Selection of local ales seemed in fair form; appeared aimed mainly at food trade.
