Trippets, Sheffield

This revamped version of Trippets doesn’t look much from the outside, in fact I might have walked past without realising it was a bar if I hadn’t been actually looking for it, It is largely grey with an arty theme, which involves lots of pictures stuck to the walls inside and what appear to be upside down and slotted steel bins as lampshades. This was all slightly irrelevant really, as it was the friendliest and most comfortable feeling venue we’d been to on our recent pub crawls. It has apparently changed management, though excellent bar staff and beer choice have been retained. There are about five hand pumps for ales (Buxton Spa and Kelham Island Easy Rider both went down very well) two more with ciders, a line of taps for craft keg beers, and a wide bottled selection, so for example if you fancy a Raging Bitch or something Doggie Style then this is the place to come. The one we thought might be the weak link turned out to be an Uberpub.

It was packed to the rafters when I was here last night (see my pub crawl: alternative to West Street) but mostly with the sort of people who stand in corridors because it's so uncool to actually sit down at a table. Having fought my way to the bar and got the barmaid's attention, I then had to wait a further five minutes to get my glass topped up, which the landlord did with good humour. It was too noisy to complain that Tring beers should not be served with a tight sparkler. There was a good range of real ales available and once we had got away from the crowds and found a table it was actually quite pleasant. Definitely worth a visit if it's not too busy.
