The Gillygate, York

This is a terraced cottage style pub, restaurant and hotel, in cream render, with some black paintwork and dormer windows. The interior has three rooms. The bar is to the left on entry. It is in white, with a red ceiling with some a brick fireplace. The lounge/dining area is to the right. It also is in white and red, with wood panel fireplace and wood floor. We ate here and the food was fine - lit with little candles on the tables. There were general prints on the walls, with photos of old York and old adverts featuring. The third room is at the back. It is small, in white, balck and with a green tile fireplace. The service was fine and the clientele mixed in the bar - nobody else was eating. Beer; tap stuff with Theakston's Bitter and Black Sheep Bitter on handpull. Had half of each and both were kept well, just not the most exciting of drinks. This was a nice place to eat and drink and would be more than happy to return - another handpull with something more adventurous wouldn't go amiss though

This pub was called The Waggon and Horses and has been renamed after the that it is on,it used to be a Stones house and now has a couple of real ales on the bar i had John Smiths cask which was a decent drink.
