The Sir Henry Tate (Lloyds No 1), Chorley

Knowing that this JDW was named after the sugar magnate (Tate & Lyle still have a huge factory in London's Docklands) I couldn't help wondering as I approached it whether he was born with a Silver Spoon in his mouth or even if he had a middle name such as Ian or Ivor. This is a modern Lloyds over two floors and apparently purpose built. I didn't go upstairs but the ground floor isn't that large an area for a Spoons. Despite being a Lloyds the beer choice was better than most Spoons of either type. The ten hand pumps had the JDW Trio Of Doom, Three Bs Thrifty Bee, Adnam's Make It Rain, Hawkshead Lakeland Lager, Cross Bay Halo & Sunset, Bank Top Mild and a Moorhouse beer, no doubling up, no unclipped pumps and no Available Soon. I went for the Lakeland Lager which was hazy but tasted OK. I'll overlook the Lakeland murk and give it a well deserved 7.

Beer wise this has a good selection of cask ales on a reasonable prices. But like a lot of Wethers it does have the usual collection of cluttered tables, iffy service and far away toilets. Its not great but it is acceptable.

Cheap beer terrible service,staff don't seem to want to serve you,v cold atmosphere and unwelcoming.
