Old Boots left this review about The Sir Henry Tate (Lloyds No 1)

Fairly standard spoons, beer quality wasn't bad and the service was quite quick. There's a second bar upstairs with a couple of hand pumps.

Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Sir Henry Tate (Lloyds No 1)

The Sir Henry Tate is a Wetherspoon's on the edge of the town centre next to what looks like a fairly modern shopping development. I often start or finish my day at a Wetherspoons', as opening times are fairly reliable. This one was my last of the night on this occasion and whilst it was quiet, there were still around 20 customers in.

The usual 3 'spoon's standards were on - Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best & Sharp's Doom Bar. The 3 guest beers were Moorhouse's Pendle Witches Brew & Reedley Hallows New Zealand Pale & Filly Close Blonde. The cider was Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon. I decided to finish on a half of the Black Dragon and at £1, I certainly couldn't argue with the price. At 7.2%, many people could get drunk for just a tenner!

A slightly above-average Wetherspoon's.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Sir Henry Tate (Lloyds No 1)

Not sure whether this is still a Lloyds No 1 Bar since it looks much the same as any new-build 'spoons. It also has a reasonable (if not local) selection of real ales from nine of ten handpumps, and getting an Elgood's plum porter for just £1.99 is something of a result.

Brainy Pool left this review about The Sir Henry Tate (Lloyds No1)

standard issue Spoons in a single room with a raised area. Has the feeling of a barn/circuit/feeding zoo place rather than somewhere for a quiet drink and it isn't very nice to be honest. It did have that rather nice blueberry bitter on at £2 a pint which is something.

Real Ale Ray left this review about The Sir Henry Tate (Lloyds No1)

Very busy on our Saturday evening visit, the place was very noisy and stuffy, with predominately a more mature customer getting tanked up after Market Day, the Market only two minutes walk away. After looking up and down the long bar area, there wasn't anything at all tempting beer wise. Was just about to leave when luckily enough I spotted Phoenix Wobbly Bob, so that save the day.

Aqualung . left this review about The Sir Henry Tate (Lloyds No1)

Knowing that this JDW was named after the sugar magnate (Tate & Lyle still have a huge factory in London's Docklands) I couldn't help wondering as I approached it whether he was born with a Silver Spoon in his mouth or even if he had a middle name such as Ian or Ivor.
This is a modern Lloyds over two floors and apparently purpose built. I didn't go upstairs but the ground floor isn't that large an area for a Spoons.
Despite being a Lloyds the beer choice was better than most Spoons of either type. The ten hand pumps had the JDW Trio Of Doom, Three Bs Thrifty Bee, Adnam's Make It Rain, Hawkshead Lakeland Lager, Cross Bay Halo & Sunset, Bank Top Mild and a Moorhouse beer, no doubling up, no unclipped pumps and no Available Soon. I went for the Lakeland Lager which was hazy but tasted OK. I'll overlook the Lakeland murk and give it a well deserved 7.

Beer wise this has a good selection of cask ales on a reasonable prices. But like a lot of Wethers it does have the usual collection of cluttered tables, iffy service and far away toilets. Its not great but it is acceptable.

Chorley Phantom Drinker left this review about The Sir Henry Tate

Witherspoons pub.

Just the same as all the others. Cheap beer rubbish service cheap food and coffee during the day. Popular so much so you have to pay to get in on a Saturday night. The only pub in Chorley that does this.

Packed at the weekend and normally a good few in during the week. Normally a good atmosphere and ales tend to be ok and when not replaced no quibble.

Used to have one of the dirtiest carpets ever seen. What took them so long to realise that carpets need to be cleaned.?
