The Clifford Arms, Stafford

Stumbled on this handsome village local whilst walking across Cannock Chase and returning through Shugborough estate. Impressive mock tudor, with a large beer garden. Traditional interior - dogs sat on high stools at the bar, real fire, few locals in an L Shaped room with tiled floor. Surprised by the 5 cask on - that included permanent Bass (as advertised), TT Landlord and unremembered others. Alas, with a hot summers day, I went for something cold and fizzy with lots of ice. It wasn't Eurofizz. Keen pricing - pleasantly surprised that my beef baguette and pint of lemonade gave plenty of change from a tenner.

Very attractive and welcoming village pub with a brewer's Tudor facade. Partly opened-out to leave a L-shaped arrangement, with the main part of the bar counter to the right and more of a lounge area to the left. A separate restaurant can also be found towards the rear. Also has a beer garden to one side. Six real ales on handpump: Bass (£3.90), Old Speckled Hen, Doom Bar, Exmoor Gold, Wainwright and Landlord.

A large detached brick pub and restaurant, with part white and timber exterior and beer garden. In the GBG 2010. The interior has a restaurant in grey and white decor and a main bar, in red and white, which is open plan around the central bar. There is also a red tiled floor. There are plaenty of photos of the pub and village on the wallls and a collection of trophies. There was a TV, or two, showing the World cup match as well. The service was good, the clientele was more maturer (my age!) and it was busy enough. We didn't try the food. Beer; tap stuff, with Bombardier, Spekky Hen, Bass Hopback Summer lightning, Adnams Broadside (very good) and Midsummer Madness - though i neglected to take the brewery's name for this. A super village pub, worth a visit and it's place in the GBG 2010. The best place in either Haywood in my opinion.
