The Bay Horse, Bristol

OK for food - better value than 'spoons. Beers kept well but range a bit limited with only Old Speckled Hen and Courage Best. Tends to get crowded and is often difficult to get a seat - a problem if you're eating.

Food-led Punch pub comprising a large-ish bar formed from a number of rooms, leaving a variety of seating areas (some up or down a couple of steps). Some nice arched windows and interesting moulded ceilings. Two handpumps - Greene King IPA and Abbot (£3.00).

Large pub conveniently situated for both Broadmead and the bus station. The emphasis seems to be very much on cheap food, with flyers all over the place offering various deals, such as curry clubs, grill clubs, burger and pint for £4.99, two meals for £5.00, etc. Top quality nosh then. It's well presented, perhaps refurbished recently, and does what it aims to do well enough. It's not really somewhere you're going to while away an evening though. There's a bank of four fruit machines opposite the bar, and a plasma showing football. Various posters advertising the world cup as well. Beers on offer were Adnams Southwold and Hobgoblin. Ciders were a rather uninspiring Blackthorn and Strongbow.
