The Globe Inn (Burns Howff), Dumfries

The Globe Inn tucked away down an alleyway in the pedestrian precinct. According to a sticker in the window it was voted by the Guardian and Observer newspapers as one of the best summer pubs 2009. One large room at the back mainly comprising of diners and couple of smaller rooms. Not forgetting the beer garden, quite a good sun trap. There were 2 real ales available (Duechars and a local brew called Criffel). Tried the Criffel which was slightly cloudy although I have had a decent pint in here on a few occasions. The pub has frequent entertainment so its probably a different place on an evening. Its OK 6.

Fine pub with strong Robert Burns connections. Due to this it can get rather touristy and it is on the Burns trail so suddenly 12 Americans descend on the place all asking for a "glass of British ale". Has a tiny snug in the middle of the pub which is full of local characters, one of whom played us a tune on his mouth organ. Has a couple of cask ales but nothing out of the ordinary, but it's worth a visit for the friendly welcome and the craic. If you're over 6 foot remember to duck.
