The Britannia, Richmond

Tucked away on a narrow lane quite a bland interior. 4 real ales and food served.

Just the two real ales on in here - Doom Bar and Twickenham Naked Ladies (£2.30 a half). I was in too early for there to be menus put out on the tables, but there was a menu on the wall outside. Main courses are £12.80+, but there is a "Workers Lunch" offer for £9.95 which gives a meal (the best bet looked to be the sausages and mash) plus a small glass of wine or soft drink. Not much use if you fancy a beer though. The bar counter is on the left hand wall of this single room, bare-boarded, pub. A single incongruous, chunky tall table, with a couple of tall stools, greets you by the door but the rest of the furnishings are wooden pews and normal tables and chairs. One of the tables is a massive pewter topped affair. Wall decor seems to be mainly mirrors, and there is a nice tiled fireplace on the right. There are vases of daffodils and tulips all over the place, and this is the sort of place that wouldn't have fruit machines or others of their ilk as it would ruin the elegant ambience that they seem to want to achieve here. There's a small garden at the back. I'm not keen on the beer prices here (£2.30 for a half of a fairly standard beer), but otherwise it's quite a comfortable enough little place. And they were playing a track by the Stones - local heroes of a kind. If you're not fussed about what you pay for your beer then it's probably worth dropping in for a swift one assuming you can find it.

Smallish, unremarkable gastro-reworking of what was a smallish, unremarkable backstreet local. Reasonable choice of ales if you're doing a Richmond crawl but no reason to linger.

A nice tidy little (small single room) pub tucked away down an alleyway. Had a couple of mainstream real ales on a couple of days back - Bombardier was mine - which were well kept. Small but comfy beer garden out the back. Worth a visit.

Unremarkable pub situated on a small lane off the main drag. A single room downstairs (I note the earlier comment about an upstairs room but I didn't spot this), bar against the side wall with bench and stool seating around sanded tables opposite. A small garden area to the rear. A rather irritating soundtrack of some kind of "dance music" playing to no one in particular. Four handpumps, one not in use, St Austell Tribute, Sharps Doom Bar and Bombardier.
