The Larrik, Marylebone, W1

Large L shaped pub.Nice smart interior and busy with diners.Noisy.Three cask beers Hooky,Ubu and my Mad Goose was in good condition.

An architecturally pleasing building with well preserved stonework, a projecting three storey corner bay and dutch gables, inside it is now one L-shaped space with a scuffed boarded floor and what looks like some original wood panelling. Large clear glass windows along two elevations plus light décor make the main area where the bar is bright and airy while the return of the L on the inside is more subdued. There is some darker grey and green bits, no gastro leaning place would be without that, there were lots of family groups eating and the buggy count was high. Roasts seemed popular being Sunday, lemon roast chicken or beef were on the menu, £13.50 or £14.50 but the standard fairly upmarket menu was available too. Arty prints on the walls ranged from moody black and white photos to John and Yoko, Christ atop of Corcovado mountain scaffolded and two staffie dogs, "Dog" and "God". The window cills had a large collection of pots of herbs on them as well as the expected candles, a union flag dangled from a ceiling while clear white blankets were suspended from another area. There are three handpumps, Purity Pure Ubu plus Mad Goose and Wadworths 6X. I believe all three change regularly. Not too bad a spot for a gastro leaning pub, decent beer if a bit pricy (£4.40).

Attractive corner pub, with both facades having matching architectural details. Typical gastro-pub decor (including a few large black & white photographs), with light furniture and floorboards. Dining room to one side of the bar. Relaxed atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon, when this type of place really comes into their own. Two of three handpumps in operation, with Wandle and Hook Norton Lion (£3.90) available.
