Artillery Arms, Ramsgate

A proper backstreet boozer up the hill due west of the town centre, looking resplendent in an attractive red white and blue frontage along with beautiful stained glassed windows and door panels, many bearing a military theme. This extends inside with a collection of helmets/caps and cap badges above the bar. The pub has three levels – the bar area as you enter, a lounge room up a few steps which overlooks the bar area and a basement room. A long-standing Good Beer Guide pub and winner of numerous locals CAMRA awards, there were five ales on during my visit, all well-kept, (Whistable, Dark Star, Gadds, Altons, Gribble). Interesting touches include reclaimed airline seats downstairs (with working recliners) and a spent bombshell as door stop. I really enjoyed this one and would wholeheartedly recommend a visit.
