A good traditional backstreet pub where you will meet some interesting local characters perched around the front bar, who like nothing better than a good pint of beer and a chat. The pub is made up of three main areas, the front bar as you enter with ample bar stools and shelving around the front windows to rest your pint. There was also a raised section at the rear, and a downstairs room full of military memorabilia. Six handpumps with four ales and one cider on our Tuesday afternoon visit. There choice of ales was Old Dairy Blue Top, Gadds No5, Gadds Black Pearl and Fyne Jarl. We went for the Old Dairy and Fyne Jarl and both were in good condition.

The Artillery has a small counter which you encounter as soon as you're over the threshold. This supports 5 pumps, mostly dealing in Kentish ale. There's a good buzz around the bar and the pub's clearly much loved by its regulars, some of whom are caricatured in portraits affixed to various walls.
Up a few steps and you've got yourself a few tables to sit around and overlook the more sociable folk engaging with the barman.
A good local, well worth some of your time when you're boozing in Ramsgate.

A proper backstreet boozer up the hill due west of the town centre, looking resplendent in an attractive red white and blue frontage along with beautiful stained glassed windows and door panels, many bearing a military theme. This extends inside with a collection of helmets/caps and cap badges above the bar. The pub has three levels – the bar area as you enter, a lounge room up a few steps which overlooks the bar area and a basement room. A long-standing Good Beer Guide pub and winner of numerous locals CAMRA awards, there were five ales on during my visit, all well-kept, (Whistable, Dark Star, Gadds, Altons, Gribble). Interesting touches include reclaimed airline seats downstairs (with working recliners) and a spent bombshell as door stop.
I really enjoyed this one and would wholeheartedly recommend a visit.
