Mentioned in Jerome K Jerome's classic book 3 men in a boat. Lovely looking olde world pub. A few real ales on - Pedigree and something called streatley best - was a obliged with a sample and told it was superb before ordering a pint. And it was! £3. I was here on May 1st and this was to have been my last pub of the day, but when I walked in I was greeted with a chorus of "we're not open" from the landlord and staff, who were relaxing after a long day spent getting the place ready to reopen on May 2nd after a six-week refurbishment. It was a shame to have missed the pub by just one day, but I wished them well with the new venture. The beer range appeared to be Brakspears Bitter and three others from the Marstons stable.
