A food oriented roadside pub, larger than I had thought on first impression. Numerous hand pumps on the bar but only Brakspear Bitter and Wychwood Hobgoblin on at the time of my visit, reasonably priced for the area at £3.25 and £3.45 a pint respectively. The Brakspear was in fine nick but disappointing after the excellent beers I'd had prior to this at the Bell in Aldworth. I was here quite late in the evening so the pub was becoming less busy and I had a good look around to find a congenial place to sit, preferably one where the annoying background music would be a little less apparent, in which I was only partially successful.

Four well-chosen Marstons list ales and Thatchers Heritage cider on, usually. This is a large multi-area'd pub with exposed brickwork, floor to ceiling wood panelling and quite a homely feel. The fire was not lit but looked and smelled like it's used. Many tables were reserved for dining but still plenty of drinking space. The renovated garden has been kept in good shape. Accommodation is now advertised. Worth a look.

Popped in the other week and was really pleased. Marstons appear to have acquired the place and have given it a thorough going-over. The inside is clean and tidy, whilst the rear garden has been made to look nice. Three ales on from the Marstons stable, in very agreeable shape and reasonably priced around £3pp - I was fully expecting upwards of £3.50. One downside was that the barman had clearly been brainwashed at the corporate patter school ("and would sir want any nuts or crisps?") but if that's the price to pay to see this place start to realise its potential, so be it. Rated 6

An ancient pub, which is lot nicer on the outside than inside, which is all ciggy-stained yellow and feels a bit grubby. Two ales on, GK IPA and Brakspears - nothing special and the quality variable. Found the staff (landlady?) a bit rude, the first time we approached the place to get a beer one afternoon we were told very curtly that they were closed before we'd even got near the door. Politeness costs nothing you know! Wouldn't really recommend stopping for, despite the Three Men in a Boat connection and open fire. Rated 5

Mentioned in Jerome K Jerome's classic book 3 men in a boat.
Lovely looking olde world pub. A few real ales on - Pedigree and something called streatley best - was a obliged with a sample and told it was superb before ordering a pint. And it was! £3.
More geared for dining thank drinking and worth checking out.

I was here on May 1st and this was to have been my last pub of the day, but when I walked in I was greeted with a chorus of "we're not open" from the landlord and staff, who were relaxing after a long day spent getting the place ready to reopen on May 2nd after a six-week refurbishment. It was a shame to have missed the pub by just one day, but I wished them well with the new venture. The beer range appeared to be Brakspears Bitter and three others from the Marstons stable.
