The Bayshill, Cheltenham

Close to the Bus Station in the centre of Cheltenham is The Bayshill Inn, a typical street corner town local. There’s a small L shaped public bar with padded seats and bar stools and a slightly unusual wood panelled bar back. A poster on the wall here tells us that the oldest photo that the management have of the pub dates back to 1835 and they ask anyone with any later information to get in touch. A large side room, which looks like an extension to the original building, acts as a food orientated lounge bar, but, rather oddly, with a dartboard in one corner. It’s a pleasant, well appointed pub with a traditional feel and, based on my recent evening visit, a broad customer mix and something of an upmarket ambience to it. There’s a large outside seating area overlooking the River Chelt apparently, which I didn’t get to see as darkness had already fallen. Occasional live music is staged. It’s a Wadworths pub and 5 beers were on – 6X, Bishops Tipple, Horizon, Henry’s IPA and Malt and Hops. Beers sampled were in good form. I thought this was a fairly reasonable place.
