Thought I would look this one up again after my 10 year hiatus of visiting Cheltenham and glad I did as I found it to be a well run pub.
It now sports an impressive mural all the length of the Northern wall, which I am guessing is a fairly recent addition as it does not appear in any of the previous photos.
The two small bar areas were being well utilised on this lunchtime visit with a few in the plainer dining area but the courtyard garden beyond was full with a party on a wake.
Still a Wandsworth pub with five hand pumps on each bar section and there were doubled with IPA, 6X, 2 Horizons ( one being the chilled version ) and Amarillo Gold which was a decent hoppy pint. Good friendly service levels and chalk boards advertised that the pub now does live music on a Saturday.

lots of room for social distancing here, with a spacious interior that stretches right back to a decent sized yard for outdoor drinking. Pub was empty inside but this was a Thursday afternoon, I shared the garden with one other drinker. Four Wadsworth ales and my IPA was fine. Seems like a friendly and comfortable community pub, just slightly adrift from the town centre. Not a destination pub and nothing special but at least it was open.

There has been a fire at The Bayshill, there is a notice in a window, saying that the pub will be closed until further notice.

The Bayshill doesn’t look very inviting from the outside despite attempts to brighten it up with flower troughs and hanging baskets, as it’s a non-descript square white box on the corner of St Georges Place and the footpath that runs along the River Chelt from the West.
But inside it’s a smart two roomed space as well described by John below, with a comfortable small public bar section and then a larger lounge section that definitely looks like it is an extension. And there is indeed an outside patio area but it is enclosed and the brick walls do not afford views.
A Wadsworth house with five hand pumps on the bar and the beers on for our early lunchtime visit were Bishops Tipple, 6X, Henrys IPA, Horizon and the seasonal Red White and Brew which should be the June to August beer. The couple we tried were in good nick and enthusiastically served by the young (well young compared to me) Landlady.
There is also a reasonable looking standard pub food menu but we did not eat here so cannot pass comment on that.

Close to the Bus Station in the centre of Cheltenham is The Bayshill Inn, a typical street corner town local.

There’s a small L shaped public bar with padded seats and bar stools and a slightly unusual wood panelled bar back. A poster on the wall here tells us that the oldest photo that the management have of the pub dates back to 1835 and they ask anyone with any later information to get in touch.

A large side room, which looks like an extension to the original building, acts as a food orientated lounge bar, but, rather oddly, with a dartboard in one corner.

It’s a pleasant, well appointed pub with a traditional feel and, based on my recent evening visit, a broad customer mix and something of an upmarket ambience to it.

There’s a large outside seating area overlooking the River Chelt apparently, which I didn’t get to see as darkness had already fallen. Occasional live music is staged.

It’s a Wadworths pub and 5 beers were on – 6X, Bishops Tipple, Horizon, Henry’s IPA and Malt and Hops. Beers sampled were in good form.

I thought this was a fairly reasonable place.
