Waggon & Horses, Brighton

Old traditional pub that's had a bit of a makeover. Wooden floors and bits of historic ephemera dotted around. Four handpumps and an impressive spirit gallery.

The Waggon and Horses isn’t the biggest place and the bar area is quite thin, but I still managed to find a seat on Saturday evening. The bar supports four hand pumps that were drawing Pride, Harveys Best, Doom Bar and Winter Warmer and there is also a standard draught selection alongside Amstel. I opted for a Guinness which was very nice and served with a smile and whilst I was knocking it back I noticed an extensive list of obscure whiskeys that are available. The plasma screen was off and the background music was hardly audible over the chatter from the twenty something crowd. At the rear off the pub there is a quiz machine, fruit machine and jukebox. There are numerous picnic tables around the side of the pub for smokers in the winter and sun worshipers in the summer. I thought this pub to be perfectly acceptable and I would have no problem returning.
