This place wasn't here the last time I visited Shrewsbury in 2016. Despite being next to the railway station with an almost guaranteed footfall, it operates with fairly limited opening hours, being closed on a Monday and not open until 5pm Tuesday to Thursday. Perhaps there is some kind of licensing restriction? Either way, it was closed when I arrived at 4:30pm on a Tuesday but I had almost an hour available to me before my train.

This is a micropub with a bar against the rear wall and plenty of seating. There are 4 cask ales - Wilde Child Tenacious Turmoil, Blackjack Rope Walk, Thornbridge/St Mars of the Desert Old Badequella & The Kernel Bitter - Wet Hop. Ciders are listed on a board behind the bar - Thistly Cross Rum Cask, Whisky Cask & Scottish Fruits, Pulp Vintage, Rhubarb, Pina Colada & Caramelised Apple Ciders, Abrahall's Thundering Molly & Lily The Pink, Bumblebee Stinger, Snail's Bank Bloor Orange & Toffee Apple Ciders & Seacider Marmalade, Pineapple, Raspberry Ripple and Strawberry & Mango Ciders.

There is a good range of craft beers too - Verdant People, Money, Space, Time, Silent Brew Can't We All Dream, Azvex Yamanaka Factors, Tartarus Raiju, Copper Beech/Neighbourhood When In Rome, Rivington By The Old Tree, Drop Project/Cockroach Brew Crimp & Brew York Empress Tonkoko. In addition, a fridge next to the bar has a good selection of cans and bottles to drink in or take away.

Despite not serving food, the bar has an excellent range of snacks and by the looks of it, you can bring your own food in. One table had a number of pizzas between them.

Shrewsbury has some great pubs but for me, this one tops them all. If only they could open longer hours.

Tap & Can has a beer shelf across the front window and four large beer hall type tables up the right to the wooden serving counter along the rear where craft keg is available alongside at least three hand pumps that were drawing Neepsend’s Viridios, New Invention’s Dockside Mild and a great pint of Verdant’s Skylark. The walls are covered in 6.5 years’ worth of pump and craft keg clips, and I found the owner to be very approachable. The background music was ok, but I was the only customer with my visit being just after the midweek opening of 17:00. I liked it in here and will return when next in the area.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Tap And Can

Part micro-pub, part craft beer bar and part bottle (or rather tin) shop. Narrow, two-part rectangular interior with canteen-style furniture and quite subdued lighting. With two of the four handpumps in use, I found North Riding's Nelson Sauvin (£4.80) and Mixtape - Volume 9 from Fyne Ales being served, together with nine beers of various styles on the keg taps.
