This is a cosy micropub located about a 25 minute walk along the seafront from the town centre. It's a nice shop converted space, comprising a bare boarded room with grey painted walls and a small servery to the left. The bar has a short, dark wood counter, whilst the bar back stands a few metres past the end of the counter, making use of a couple of natural recesses for the fridges - a large plain mirror hangs where you would normally expect it to be. There are a couple of high tables and stools under the large shop front windows, which are strewn with fairy lights to great effect. Aside from this, there's a small seating space to the rear with one copper topped table and some basic chairs, an upturned barrel surrounded by bar stools and two more high stools serving a short drinking ledge. For a shop conversion, there's a nice feature in the shape of a tiled fireplace to the rear left with colourful vases of flowers on its mantlepiece. A small second room can be found out the back with a few more tables and chairs, a shelf full of GBG's and other beer literature, and a large TV screen, which was out of action.
I received a very friendly welcome from the lone barmaid, who empathised with my steamed up spectacles on a bitterly cold evening. Once I'd de-misted, I could see that there was a choice between Big Trip It's All Over Your Face and Makossa, Fell Ghyll, Lunebrew Bitter and one other that I forgot to note down. My pint of Ghyll was in great shape and I enjoyed sitting in the corner, listening to the locals and occasionally jumping out of my skin every time a very loud dog at the table next to me decided to randomly bark.
This is a great example of a popular, community based micropub which is clearly very well run, has a loyal customer base and serves up excellent quality beer. My only real issue would be the opening times, which seem a bit restrictive even on a Saturday evening, which meant I was constantly clock watching and that the place emptied out relatively early. Otherwise, it's a great pub and I'd say it's well worth the effort to get to.

Well-presented micro-pub with a proper bar counter. The full-height windows at the front help a bit, but the tall tables and chairs in the compact back area are definitely gloomy. No frills, of course, but the service was friendly and efficient. Five of the six handpumps were in use, offering an interesting selection of mostly local offerings, including the Holmes Stead from Farm Yard Ales.

a typical micropub, where the attraction really lies in the friendly service and clientele. it's always a good sign when you become part of the conversation as soon as you walk through the door. six hand pumps offer a good varied selection of interesting beer, all of which the landlord spoke passionately about. the pub itself has two rooms and a small cosy beer garden. it's a family pub and if you wait around long enough you may get to share whatever they are eating for tea. smoked trout on this occasion!
