Blackthorn _ left this review about Steam Cafe Bar

A fairly recent addition to this end of town in a building that was formerly a pizza restaurant, it is, as it’s name suggests, more of a café/bar type establishment than your traditional pub and follows the current trend of having a stripped out industrial look.

Inside it’s one large open plan room, with a long bar counter to the left and a stage area at the front. A notice outside advertised a comedian was on from 7:00pm, although it was in fact almost 8:30 before he got going. Flooring is all painted concrete, whilst the walls have been painted in a shade of marine blue. Seating is mostly picnic style benches with a few black leather sofas dotted around. Five large pictures along one wall depicted each of New York’s boroughs. A dark grey tiled ceiling had all the air-conditioning ducting on plain view, although they had gone to the trouble of painting it red which makes a change from the usual bare metal. Some unused, large diameter bits of ducting had been cut in to lengths and had a cushion affixed to the top to make bar stools.

Food wise, the menu appeared to offer a selection of burgers, waffles, hot dogs and pizzas, with most of the latter being somewhere around the £9/£10 mark. Unfortunately there were no real ales on tap, just keg DNA from Charles Wells, although even this had run out. The solitary cider was Thatcher’s Gold.
