Updated since previous reviews, it now feels more like a social venue than a high street boozer, and it offers B&B. Still a Young's pub, but only one of their beers, Young's Original,on draft, plus a guest, Hop Union's Scallywag. Both were in good condition. They are supplemented by a keg range of Guinness, Maine and Co's To The Sun, Neck Oil, Keller Pils, Praha, Aspall's Cider, Estrella and Peroni. Friendly young staff made us feel welcome, and there was a lively clientele generating a pleasant convivial atmosphere. A pretty decent city centre pub, though not cheap.

A decent Young's pub this one, where you might find more diners than drinkers. The pub is comfortable and has a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. There were five hand pumps, so I went for the Young's Special and Bath Ales Gem, both were in good shape. Some features I liked here was the front of the bar counter, which had some ornate moulding work. I also noticed a feature wallpapered wall near the front entrance, which depicted a heritage map of Bristol Docks and some references to Banksy. The floors were polished teak boards and looked a treat.

Recently refurbished, this is a large, Young’s pub situated just around the corner from Corn Street. It’s quite a long pub going back some way from the street, and it’s USP is that it now includes a small cinema at the back of the pub.

Décor wise it’s fairly nondescript, with a mixture of wood strip on the floor and some slate tiling. Paintwork is mostly cream with some maroon detailing and there was pale green wood panelling in places. Many of the features from before it’s refurbishment appear to have gone, although a small bookcase towards the rear of the pub remains.

We didn’t check the menu, although a number of people were eating including a large Christmas party of about twenty. Probably this is not the best time of year to get an accurate reflection on their food offering. The cinema was showing “World’s End” on a recent visit, and as numbers are quite limited I understand that you generally need to book. It looked to be a pretty good set up, with a large screen and individual leather arm-chairs complete with cushions and even blankets! I shall return in the new year to check it out.

Beers on tap were Bath Ales’ Festivity with the remainder all being from the Young’s stable with their Bitter, London Gold, Winter Warmer, Bombardier and Arthur’s Tipple. Oddly I neglected to note the cider’s, although they certainly included Thatcher’s Gold since that’s what I was drinking.
