Alan Winfield left this review about The Legion

The Legion is a large looking pub situated in the middle of Atherstone.
Once inside this seems more like an ex service mens club which it was than pub.
The bar is situated in a smallish oblong shaped area to the front, this area had a TV showing horse racing, the seating was pew type and normal tables and chairs, the room was carpeted, there is a much larger room to the rear which is also oblong shaped this room had long bench seating running down each side and lots of normal tables and chairs in the middle area, there was a stage to the rear.
There were no real ales on the bar, that was no surprise, the two keg options were John Smiths Smooth Crap and Worthington keg crap,i had a drink of the Worthington which was crap.
The front bar was very busy with people in flat caps typical of an ex service mens club.
Not really my sort of pub.

Soup Dragon left this review about The Old Skool

This place has gone through a host of changes. It carries the name of the Atherstone Ex-Servicesmen's Club and was known as the 'The Legion', however, it opened-up to anyone (I assume a pub licence) and changed it's name to 'The Old Skool'. It remains open to everyone, I asked when i went in, but has changed its name to 'The Legion'. It is a three storey terraced Georgian styled building in a peppermint green render, which now looks a little tired. There are neo-classical pilastered ends, with a columned entrance with pediment and nice sash windows.

The interior still has that club feel. It is basically one long room with the serving bar part the way up on the left. The bar area is really at the front and the rear section doubles as a function room which culminates in a stage and a deance floor area. The decor, in general, has a cream patterned wallpaper with blue seats and a patterned carpet at the back while there is a laminate floor at the front. The ceiling is of polystyrene tiles. There is a pool table, a couple of dart boards (one at either end) and a pinball machine. There were a few TVs, which had some general daytime stuff on. There isnt much in the way of pictures, just a few trophies for interest. The service was fine and just a single bloke in, who was friendly enough.

Beer; all tap stuff, with no real ale and no keg MILD. Had half of something.

Whilst the exterior looks past its best, there is a perfectly tidy interior to this former club. It is a shame that there is nothing for me to drink really.
