The Greyhound is as Roadside pub in Arnold town centre at the side of the main road. A longstanding pub this place has been on this site for a couple of hundred years. It has had several refurbishments over the last couple of years and this was my first visit since it has had the bar area extended. The entrance is via the main bar with a centrally located square shaped bar serving. There is a middle wall separating the bar from what I presume would have originally been a lounge area at the other side of the pub. This is now an all laminated tacky dance room with space for a DJ that has karaoke and the sort on weekends; it really is a divide having a tradition drinking room and this modern eyesore. Thankfully the bar is in a much more traditional style with carpets and bench seating, the contrast is quite startling. Since the extension there has been extra space created on the left hand side of the bar room that is a bit more modem that the original bar with a different colour scheme and more modern seating. This is very popular pub and especially at weakens for two reasons A, very reasonably priced drinks which attract a more of a traditional drinker to the bar area and the cheesy dance music that sees a lot of younger people in. Unfortunately on a weekend there seems to be a good number of undesirable’s inn and the atmosphere was a little tense at time as there was a remarkably large number of baled tattooed 20 somethings in. Surprisingly there were our pumps on the bar dispensing three beers, Bombardier, a House beer called Greyhound ale and Timothy Tailors landlord. I opted for the Landlord at a very good price of £2.70 and must admit to it being kept in a surprisingly grand condition, not perfect but very drinkable indeed and much much better that I was expecting. I sat in the traditional bar are and Watched as the young people piled into the disco room. They have got quite a good niche here, being located so close to a weherspoons, It caters for all with cheap prices to compete with next door, Real ale and a traditional surrounding for the traditionalists and a modern dance area for the young people with a good selection of their sort of drinks. Usually I don’t take to places trying to do it all but they pull it off rather well here and I commend them for that. This will not be everyone’s cup of tea and the large amount of less than grand customers will make some second guess this place but I had a rather enjoyable night as it was something different and I got decent ale at a good price. I would think that weekdays would be much more traditional and it as it seems it is only rowdy on the weekends so people looking for a quiet pint would be advised to avoid at busy times. Worth a try just to experience it.

The Greyhound is not that far from the middle of Arnold it used to be an Home Ales tied house, the pub looks fairly decent from the outside but it does not have any real ale on the bar.
