Alex Conway left this review about The Old Spot

The Old Spot is a large roadside pub meters away from Home Brewery building and at one time was their brewery tap. Many years on following the closure of that brewery and things are now almost unrecognisable. Now under the ownership of Greene King following the acquisition of Punch taverns this pub now comes under the banner of Fayre and Square. Sadly I would now use the word “pub” very loosely when describing these places as it is now really a budget family eatery/restaurant with most of the traditional local pub elements missing. The pub is an unusual shape with the front half being a long and thin with the bar running down the centre and bending round the back right hand side corner that leads to a small “bar” area. This is a small square room with a few tables and chairs and is now the only traditional pub feature remaining. The rest of the pub is all dining tables for people eating and these are not for drinkers although when not busy I am sure you could. I hate pubs with this attitude that discriminate against drinkers and no wonder no one ever comes in here just for drinks. Aside from this another off putting feature is the unbelievable high prices charged. Guinness Was £3.80 and The mundane cask choice of Abbot or Doomber failed to impress. I have also eaten here and can safely say o was not impressed with the overpriced poor quality food. This is not really a pub anymore and the constant change of staff is a testament to how poorly trained and treated the staff are by upper management, the turnover rate here is huge so expect poor service all around. This is not the place to go for a pint but if like me you find yourself in the unfortunate situation of coming here against your own free will the beer is kept ok so there is a small bonus. Unfortunately this does not make up for things and this is not worth bothering with.

The Old Spot is a large white painted pub that is in the daybrook area of Arnold and was once Home Ales brewery tap.
Once inside the pub had a few different rooms with a smart lounge and a more basic bar,i have only been in this pub a couple of times but always enjoyed my time here.
The pub was an Home Ales tied house when i visited it and there were two real ales on the bar, both Home bitter and mild were very nice drinks.
This pub is still up and running but i dont know what beers are now on the bar.
