A very civilised and proper sort of pub: nice traditional furnishings, a real fire and a good range of beers. What's not to like? The locals seemed to concur, as it was pleasantly busy. There is also a curious little snug area and a courtyard out the back. The cask ales on were Bass, Jaipur, Exmoor Stag, Whim Hartington, Durham Genesis, and Woodforde's Wherry and Reedlighter. A few craft and some ciders also available.

Formerly the Brampton Ale House. The pub has recently been refurbished, keeping a traditional style and is now rebadged as the Brampton Brewery Tap House. The interior consists of a central bar with a wrap around lounge. The bar is the main showcase here, with a tiled bar front, polished brass hand rail and a pot shelf over the counter. Eight ales on handpump, three from Barlow and five guest. We went for the Barlow Bettys Blonde and Barlow Beyond the Pale, both were in good shape.

This is a Thwaites house, with three hand pumps all serving Thwaites beers when I visited. These were Lancashire Reign 5.2% and IPA 3.9%, both new to me, and Wainwrights. I had the IPA, which was well kept but fairly undistinguished.
I've been here before on a Tuesday when no real ales were available, and was told that they make them available for the weekend but let them run off for the quieter days. This visit was on a Thursday, so presumably all three barrels were fresh.
This is a pleasant enough pub as part of the Brampton Mile, but I wouldn't go out of my way just to visit this one.
