As noted below this old Victorian building is a typical Spoons barn. You have to negotiate some steps to get inside but there is also a wheel chair lift. Furnishings are fairly typical and there is a projector screen dominating one end so if this is on it affects the entire pub and would certainly have cut short a stop for me.
The bar has ten hand pumps which had the JDW Trio Of Doom with Ruddles doubled, Phoenix Spotland Gold doubled & Wobbly Bob, a cider, Kelham Island Black Lightning and Stancill Black. I went for the Black Lightning which went down a treat with a breakfast sausage roll.
Apart from the projector screen I thought this place was OK.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Old Market Hall (JD Wetherspoon)

From the front, you would be hard pressed to guess that this it was ever a market hall, but from the larger window-less rear part this becomes much more obvious. It's a big, sturdy building all right, but having been thoroughly 'spooned inside one still can't really tell what it once was. Mostly one big space, divided by a row of pillars, but there are two smaller lounge-like areas at the front. Also has a side patio terrace. So-so selection from eight of ten handpumps, with the Robinson's Magnum IPA (£2.15) being one of the more interesting offerings.

I don't often drink in a Spoons, especially when there are other options nearby, but in Mexborough there are few such options, apart from the two club-cum-pub-cum-breweries, the Concertina Band Club and the Imperial Club. A recent visit saw me with 10 minutes to kill before my train, having left the Concertina and with not enough time to visit the Imperial, so I popped in for a half. There were still two banks of five hand pumps, but the choice was a bit limited, with some of the usual suspects doubled up and only two or three guests. I went for the Great Heck Voodoo Mild from the right hand bank, and was perplexed when the server poured it from a pump labelled with a Greene King Abbot pump clip at the left hand bank of pumps. She actually had three goes at pouring my half, on the first occasion managing a third, returning to the Abbot pump for a little more (achieving about three-eighths) and finally presenting me with a frothy top above what I would say was about five-twelfths of a pint of beer (see picture - some drinkers on another table had a good laugh at me photographing my beer). I suppose when the beer only cost me 93p it's a bit mean to quibble about a few missing millilitres, but combined with the mislabelled pump, this seemed symptomatic of a sloppy approach to running a bar.
