Had 2 cask ale pumps on. Very much a cafe style place and yet again I'm not trendy e ough for these kinda places. Cheaper than over the road today.

After a few weeks of closure Common has reopened after a major refurbishment. As you enter there's now a food servery to the left and the main bar has been extended into what used to be the middle room which no longer exists. There are now some proper toilets and the area where they used to be up a few steps is now a small alcove with a table. The right hand room has lost its unused bar area and has been opened up to give lots more space. All the seating and tables are pine coloured and whilst they look good they weren't very comfortable after about 20 minutes. There's a mix of long tables and standard dining size tables in both rooms. Still only 2 handpumps on the bar at the moment, but there are now several craft keg taps behind the bar with a beer menu board on the wall. I had a pint of Mad Hatter Hope Street Hop which was in very good nick. They've done a good job on the refurb so far, but it still doesn't look finished. We'll still be calling in regularly.

Going from strength to strength with regards to the beer selection. The Flowers Original has now gone from the bar and they serve an ever changing selection from their two handpumps. On my latest visit RedWillow Reckless was an excellent pint. It's not a traditional pub in any way, shape of form, but I like it.

Three roomed bar in the Northern Quarter, so you know it's going to be a bit bohemian. The rooms to the right are mainly set up with dining tables. The middle room has some booths and a couple of other tables. The bar is in the left hand room and this has some comfy seating along with some tables & chairs. The walls are painted with outlandish cartoon characters which means that it's quite bright and breezy. The place looks half finished, but I'm pretty sure this is intentional. The bar is made of bare chipboard for example. Two handpumps on the bar serving Flowers Original & Three B's Tacklers Tipple on Saturday. The Three B's was well kept if a little cold. They also serve keg BrewDog and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. It's the sister pub to the nearby Port Street Beer House. It's OK for one, but I prefer their other bar.

The Common is in three sections with a bar and seating area to the left and a couple of quieter seating areas to the right. There is a distinct common room feel given by the décor and hoards of students that had mobbed the place during my recent Thursday evening visit. I managed to stumble in during the opening night of a six month exhibition by the Common People’s Party. I thought I’d fallen into a time warp and been deposited on Tooting Broadway and I must confess to be a little confused the next morning when in my pocket I found a memo from the office of the prime minister of the common world. The part of the exhibition that I saw was some blown up photos with a meaningful title that were available for purchase at around £50 each. To be honest I could have taken most of them and I’m no David Bailey.
After standing at the bar for a while wondering when the British forgot to queue I was served a decent pint of Brightside Brewing Company’s Odin. I also noted the presence of some premium draught products, but I failed to see the second hand pump mentioned in previous reviews.
The music was a little loud, but it was right up my street with the likes of the Jam and the Clash being played.

This isn’t really my sort of place so I’m not going to plan a return visit.
