Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Crown

Obviously an old building, but thoroughly refurbished in all parts, and particularly the seating and pool table areas up a few steps from the exposed brickwork in and around the bar. Elongated patio beer garden at the back. With two of the three handpumps operational, I found Doom Bar and Wainwright (£3.20) available.

A pleasant Marston's pub. Very olde worlde inside with wooden beams and bare brick. It seems to be in 3 parts with the bar area, a raised area to opposite the bar and a covered alleyway-like area to the right of the bar. 3 handpumps with only Wainwright's on today. A nice pub to enjoy a pint but you're not getting anything adventurous beer wise.

There are 3 sections to this welcoming black and white timber framed building.
You walk into the bar which has a wood floor, brick built bar and, despite the large telly in the corner, feels the most traditional part of the building.
To the left of the entrance and up a small flight of stairs is a small pool area and, to the rear of the building, a much larger, long and fairly narrow lounge area which is carpeted with nondescript pub furniture and lacks any traditional features. The lounge is a pretty dreary atmosphereless space which doesn't fit the building at all.
The welcome from behind the bar was friendly with the barman happy to chat about the beers all punctuated by loud, expletive laden banter from the pool players. No bad thing as it added to the atmosphere.
Beers on were all from Marstons - Pedigree, Marstons Bitter and Banks Black Diamond which is either a very bitter mild or very light porter dependant on how you see it. Either way, the Black Diamond slipped down easily.
Not a bad boozer in a town struggling for decent ale.
