Refurbished Greene King pub that attracts a very rough crowed especially on weekends. This is by far my least favourite pub of the three along Mapperly top. Being a Greene king pub their standard dire beers are available at reasonable prices with four of the six hand pumps taken up May the generic speckled hen ipa and abbot with old trip also usually frequenting. The other two usually have guests with Nottingham brewery beers and black sheep having been on at times. On my last visit there was a “managers special” offering rocking Rudolph at £1.49, this was quite a nice drink compared to other green king beers. They also do “craft beers” at ridiculous £4 + prices that no one every buys.
Overall this is not the best pub and is mainly let down by the rough clientele and how it is for too sports and alcopop promotions orientated to be enjoyable and six months ago I was given a plastic glass and told this would be a regular feature for the foreseeable future due to a glassing the week before, take of that what you will. Unless with friends on a one stop crawl I won’t be back any time soon.

**Update January 2017
A big refurb by green king has done the place out. Now hard wood floors throughout with lots of TV screens and live music on Weekends. The beer range has been expanded and now features a few more guest beers. On my last visit there was Speckled Hen, Abbot, GK IPA, Belhaven Robert Burns, Nottingham EPA and Ships tons original Bitter at £3.30 a pint and in fairly good nick. I would assume that there can still be a few questionable customers on a Saturday night but this place does still get very busy and the ban on glass has been withdrawn now the pub has been refurbished so although still Green king an improvement on how it once was although not as comfy with the modern wood décor all over that is not really to my liking.

Situated right next door to Spoons and is worth a look in. This large GK pub is very comfortable and is smartly decorated. Quite a few people were dining on our visit, even though it was around four in the afternoon on a Wednesday.

The Plainsman is an ex Kimberley tied house now run by Greene King it has the usuall gange of GK beers on the bar and the beers should be alright because it has got cask marque status,a better option would be going to the Bread and Bitter which is very close to this pub.
This pub is in Arnold and not Nottingham as listed.
