returned here on Saturday and must say the OBB was outstanding, possibly even my beer of the day, trumping many of Leeds’ more celebrated ale houses. It’s clearly quite a well-run operation here, the service was very good. When I first arrived it had that stilted atmosphere that often pervades Sam’s pubs, a bit like drinking in a museum. Once it filled up it was fantastic - all walks of life from students to jolly pensioners and families. That’s the issue with rating pubs you see, one hour can make all the difference.

typical historic Sam Smiths city centre pub. Multi roomed, a bit rough around the edges, £1 for a half of bitter. much better value than the other pubs nearby if you’re not too fussy about your beer.

Old Boots left this review about The Angel Inn
As others have commented a rather plain Sam Smiths pub and one of the alley pubs off Briggate. Upstairs there are two rooms, one with a counter and finished in Victorian style with red walls and a tartan carpet, portraits of Yorkshire worthys decorate the walls to inspire, or otherwise, the drinker. Downstairs also has two rooms in cream with maps and old photos, again one room has a counter. The usual coldish average OBB plus the rest of the Sam's range at the usual low prices. A fruit machine makes an appearance and there is a lot of outdoor seating. One side of the yard is formed by the windows of the Ship next door although there is no connection between the pubs.
