A decent sized pub,the same mushy pea coloured walls described by Quinno below remain and clash slightly with the red carpet, on one wall was a strange collection of framed mirrors. There was a good attendance of after work drinkers in,some not local going by their accents, probably explained by the fact the pub has accommodation facility's. There's a pool table and juke box,a flat screen (showing daytime tv), a couple of pre-season Arsenal games were advertised, also advertised was live music. On the ale front there are four hand pumps, three were in use, Doom Bar, Greene King IPA and Marstons New World which turned out to be really quite good to my surprise, these were backed up by the usual keg offerings. I found this pub quite comfortable and would call again.

Looks a bit careworn from the outside but is a bit better within, even if it smelt of dried wallpaper paste. Carpeted, with mushy pea coloured walls and retro Victoriana wallpaper with a Wedgewoodesque feel. Fairly large room but not a huge amount of seating due to the over large bar, I took to the sofas in the left recess. Smattering of punters in, with a couple playing cards. Upright piano spotted, though I think the parrot mentioned below is no longer in situ. Four pumps, two clipped (Doom Bar and Ringwood). Other two had luggage labels which I subsequently discovered had beer names on them, GK IPA on one but the other wasn't facing the bar so who knows what was there? Nice idea but ultimately self-defeating. The resultant Ringwood was serviceable. I try not to comment on the female bar staff in reviews but I must say that the lass in here was effortlessly pleasant and extremely easy on the eye too. In a nasty town centre with few options, this one is worth a look.

The Alexandra is an L shaped local’s boozer that has a small seating area on the left hand side of the pub where a parrot stands guard in a large cage. To the right of the pub there are sofas and more conventional seating along with a dartboard and a pool table that is located at the rear where access can be gained to a decked terrace with views overlooking the large car park. There is a plasma screen either side of the bar and this was showing daytime TV during my visit during a recent Friday lunchtime. I didn’t spot any advertisements for Sky Sports, but a fixture list for the Six Nations was present. Cheap food is served all day and a standard draught selection is available from the bar along with three ales in the form of Doom Bar, TEA and Beartown’s Bear Ass. The Guinness was up to scratch and the governor was friendly enough. Bed and Breakfast is available from £30 a night and this is an over 21s establishment.

I wouldn’t go out of my way to drink here again, but I would pop back in if passing.
