Once a traditional pub, this was an Oirish pub for several years, then a cocktail bar called Muse, and it now has three hand pumps on the bar, though the emphasis remains on cocktails, which means it can sometimes take a little while to get served. There were two real ales on, and I had time, while waiting for the staff to stop mixing cocktails, to think that the choice between Abbeydale Deception and Brew Co Yellow Rose didn't really amount to a choice at all. And then I had time to study the bottled beers in the cabinet behind the bar. And then I had time to explain to my daughter exactly what a saison beer was, and then why I was quite pleased to see they had Rodenbach. And then we got served.

Actually, I quite liked it here, with its strange mix of old fashioned pub (exposed chimney breast and original cornice) and modern bar (air conditioning ducts festooned with artificial ivy leaves and fairy lights). It's hard to tell what the original building would have been like, as there seems to have been a bit added on to the front (a long time ago) and obviously a lot of internal walls removed. At each end of the long room there are mirrors, to try to make a fairly small place look bigger. At one end the mirror has been cut to fit around an RSJ that replaced an internal wall and is obviously a mirror; at the other end it really gives the illusion of another room further on: it's that sort of place. The clientèle was mixed, mostly young professionals or recent students: it's the sort of place that is popular with people my daughter's age, and a place where they feel comfortable bringing their parents. Or do I mean that I would have felt out of place without my daughter being there? There was music playing and although it was interesting it was quite loud, making conversation a bit of a struggle, and I don't mean just for my old ears.

I think this pub used to be called the Mail Coach in the mid 80s and it was a decent pub and it was a Tetley tied house.
This pub has gone through lots of different name changes over the years in late 2009 it was called Dogma.
There are not any real ales in this pub now with shots and vodka being the main drinks in here now.
