Up until 1983 this was 2 pubs together - The Carlton & The Royal Engineers - both traditional old pubs with old regulars playing darts & dominoes. Initially a doorway was built between them, so that customers could go from one to the other. In 1984 they both closed for refurbishment and was reopened as one pub - Carlton Park. This was a very trendy intown pub, - lots of chrome railings, red carpets and pop art pictures on the wall, very 80's and very popular with the young clubber set.
As most pubs in Castleford's town centre, the clubbing set have now moved to the nearby Xscape complex, and custom has died out. Today the pub, now called Carlton's is struggling, and it has a For Sale sign hanging over it's door.
