Refurbished pub fairly near Cradley Heath station, on the way up to Quarry Bank. All a bit more modern inside than one might expect, but not too badly so. Disappointingly, though, no sign of real ale, with the extra-dull John Smith's and Worthington's (£2.90) being the keg bitter beers.

I had many good times in here years ago. It was a regular haunt on a Sunday back then. I hadn't been in for at least 10 years but I had to kill half an hour this afternoon so paid it a visit. No ales on so I had a quick lager. A couple of clips turned around so not sure if they do ale or not. Friendly service.

This is a detached pub with beer garden. The OS Maps suggest it is a late Victorian pub, which replaced an earlier pub of the same name on roughly the same site. It is predominantly in red brick, with yellow brick around the upper windows and white brick on the side gable. The interior now has one single L-shaped room (the 3 old rooms having been ripped out) which has both a pool table and dart board, as well as a large bird cage, complete with bird. The pub opened as we arrived (i think it may have not long been taken over), so they were still doing a bit of cleaning and there was no music, although the TV was put on - for the footy. A few pictures are on the walls, which are white, cream and red. The ceiling is white. There are a few tiled fireplaces, and some red bench seating. The service was functional and there was no other clientele. Beer; no real ale - 4 handpulls, with the clips turned around. I had an OK Guinness. Needs a little more time, I think.
