A fairly standard, but very popular Marston's pub on the outskirts of the town centre. Very busy on my Friday, late afternoon visit. Two poker tables on the go and lots of people watching football on the large screens. There's also a dart board and a quiz machine. There's seating outside at the front on the very busy main road, apparently there's also a beer garden that I didn't visit. There are 4 handpumps with just the 2 beers on which were Pedigree and Banks's Bitter. The Pedigree was in decent condition. A good solid locals pub, but nothing to go out of your way for in a town like Rugby.

The William Webb Ellis is situated on what seems like a large traffic island that has cars bombing round constantly.
I liked the look of this pub from the outside,it reminded me of pubs in Yarmouth and Blackpool in the 80s.
Once inside there is a decent sized L shaped room, the serving bar was to the rear, there was comfy bench seating in bays to the rear right, with normal tables and chairs to the front right, the front left was part bare boarded and carpeted.
The pub still has its old Banks's signs outside and there was a Banks's real ale on the bar,i had a drink of Banks's bitter which went down well, the other beer was Pedigree.
There was some decent background music playing, the TV was showing cricket.
I was quite happy drinking in this pub.

The William Webb Ellis is a decent sized, unexceptional boozer on Rugby's gyratory system.
Inside there's a long bar running across the back wall with pub being effectively a large one roomed affair with partitions which create smaller but still open areas. It feels a bit dark and cold but that may not have been helped by it being a bleak foggy day and clearly the friendly landlord wasn't effected as he had shorts on. The welcome was certainly warm though.
There are a number of televisions around the place, including behind the bar, showing various sporting events and, to be expected, there's plenty of rugby memorabilia on the walls.
The food menu is standard pub grub but portions were generous and it's decent value.
Only two beers on, Pedigree and Banks and the Pedigree wasn't great but I'm not sure that any Pedigree is great these days.
It's a long time since this was The Papillon but it was definitely better when it was.
