The Eldon House is a decent looking pub that is up a steep hill from Hotwell Road.
Once inside the bar faces in a small oblong shaped room, the floor is bare boarded, there is bench seating and small stools for seating, there is an extension to the left which has normal tables and chairs.
There were four real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Otter Amber, which was a nice drink, the other real ales noted were Saltaire Pale Ale,St Austell HSD and Bath Ales Jem.
Decent background music was playing.
I had a chat with the friendly barmaid.
I quite took to this pub.

Blackthorn has been very thorough ,I really liked the careful refurbishment of this small street corner pub which has created a comtemporary atmosphere but has retained a lot of pub ambiance. You enter in a small tap room with a mural to the right of the River Avon through the City, with notes of historic interest. The large plate glass windows give lots of natural light and the paintwork is in best Farrow and Ball tones. The extension has retained the original external pub walls and windows ,so many original features remain.Although on a crawl,I clocked the menu and specials board and what was on offer looked a few notches up from classic pub grub, quite sophisticated and food was popular on my Saturday lunchtime visit.
At the bar there are 5 handpumps offering Plain Ales Innocence,Bath Gem , Summer Haze and Bristol Beer Factory Enigma (fine nick) with a pump unclipped.Worthy of it's 2016 GBG listing, trendy but a valid addition to any real ale crawl of this attractive part of the City.

A traditional and fairly small pub located just of the Jacobs Wells Road, this must get little in the way of passing trade despite only being a couple of minutes walk from the hustle and bustle of the Triangle. At one time it must have been quite a small pub, but now benefits from a side extension that pretty much doubles the floor area, presumably at the expense of the beer garden.

The original bar at the front of the pub is quite compact and traditional in terms of décor and this leads in to the much more contemporary extension to the side. This is quite light and airy due to it’s semi-glazed roof and has exposed stone walling around the perimeter, although oddly with no windows. Planning conditions perhaps? Flooring was a mixture of flagstone style tiles at the rear and sanded wooden boards at the front. The original windows and external doorway of the pub are still present which are an unusual feature and include some stained glass. A few colourful local photographs such as the suspension bridge and harbourside were on the walls. A plasma screen was mounted on one wall which looked slightly out of place perhaps, but fortunately was not in use. A raised area was off to one side which on our visit was simply used for additional seating, but perhaps be used as a stage area for the regular (Sunday) live music nights. To the rear is a small snug which again must be part of the original building. This was quite cosy but only had two tables and a small book case.

We didn’t eat on this occasion, but a quick glance at the menu showed a selection of “pub classics” such as ham egg & chips, fish & chips, fish pie, etc., and these were mostly priced around £9 or so. There was also a separate burger menu and a number of sandwiches chalked up on a board.

Beers on tap were Gem and Summer Hare from Bath Ales along with BBF Sunrise. The solitary cider was a slightly disappointing Bounders.
