The Coach & Horses is a decent looking pub that is a very short walk from the Port of Call.
Once inside there is a L shaped room with the bar facing, the room is carpeted and has comfy bench seating and small stools for seating and a leather settee and small stools to the left, there are pew seats to the right, the rear right area is up two steps where there are normal tables and chairs.
There were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Doom Bar which was a decent enough drink.
There was no music and the TVs were showing crap.
I thought this may be a younger persons pub before i went in,but was surprised as i was the youngest in there on my Saturday dinner visit.

The pub seems to be much as described below, and if it has had a refurbishment since Blackthorn's review was written, it has resulted in wood panelling to waist height on the walls, with plain picture-strewn walls above. Most of the pictures, I was interested to note, were of coaches and horses, indicating that a degree of thought has gone into their selection. On the bar I spotted eight hand pumps, with beers available at the time of my visit being Sharps Doom Bar, St Austell Tribute, Exmoor Gold and Wychwood Hobgoblin, plus Old Rosie cider. There's a piano in the corner, but nothing to suggest a sing-song was about to burst out - most people, like me, were just having a quiet drink. Not what you'd call a destination pub, though pleasant enough, this would make a decent short pub crawl together with the nearby Port of Call, Beaufort Arms and Red Lion, avoiding the more crowded pubs on Whiteladies Road.

Prominent pub located in a small square just off of Blackboy Hill. It's got a decent pub feel to the place with a large L-shaped bar and a smaller bar off to the left with a piano. There's a small terrace area out at the front. It seems to be undergoing something of a spruce up at present, there was a definite fresh paint aroma about the place.

Years ago this place used to be rammed with students, but on a recent Saturday evening visit it was relatively quiet. Not empty, but no problem getting a seat either. There were a few people eating, but the pub is certainly not food dominated (even though there are cup cakes on the bar!). Staff were polite and efficient – it makes a change to get an apology when the barmaid's busy serving the food and so can't get to the bar to serve you.

Beers on this occasion were Bass, Courage Best, Butcombe and Gem. Ciders were Thatcher's Gold and Addlestones, both of which were very good. Well worth a visit.
