A superb, historic boozer with an unmolested and traditional interior featuring real billiards and a real fire as well as exposed beams.
The place was very busy on our midweek visit with many seemingly regulars.
Beers on were: Adnams Ghost Ship and Broadside, Thwaites Lancaster Bomber and Woodfordes Wherry. A fairly dull selection perhaps unsurprisingly for a pubco. Disappointingly the Ghost Ship was in appalling condition and I couldn't get through the pint which brought my visit to a premature end.

A great old pub building,the low side entrance leads to an even lower bar room with thick wooden beams causing me to virtually double over much to the mirth of the bar stoll regulars.To the left behind some exposed upright wooden posts is a bar billiards room,while past the bar there is a charming front snug with its own brick fireplace,large traditional wooden tables and lots of atmosphere.Away from the bar is a back room,away also from bar room banter.Not all the handpumps were functional,and being pubco owned ,their distribution options for ale were very mainstream and booring.However Adnams Ghost Ship stood out as a reasonable option , it was clear yet in terrible condition with an increasing tang as the pint went down.Very surprising for a GBG listed pub.We then noticed that all the regulars and other punters were drinking keg beer or wine,so maybe throughput on real ale is slow.
If you like quirky old interiors you may like this pub,but I will most certainly not return as I prefer vinegar on my chips.

Ye Olde Sun is a really nice looking pub from the outside.
Once inside it gets better,there is a small single room which is divided into three areas,the bar faces on entry and is in the middle area,there is a bar billiards table in the left side which was being used,i would have loved to have a go on it as it has been a long time since i have,the floor is tiled and the ceiling is very low and beamed,there is also a very small snug to the rear.
there was a good choice of real ales on the bar,we had a drink of York Terrier which went down very well,the other beers were Brains Phonics,Adnams Ghost Ship,Woodfords Wherry and Grainstore Ten Fifty.
This is a top notch pub that is well worth a visit.
