Situated on the roundabout of the Old Ford Road and Grove Road intersection this large three storey pub with its now bright purple lower exterior paint job stands out, especially at night when the lights from the pub and the upstairs restaurant act like a beacon for weary travellers traversing Victoria Park.
Inside its nothing you haven’t seen before from a posh food led Youngs pub. All wooden floors, comfortable seating and multiple areas in the pub section and liberal use of Farrow and Ball pastel colours in the restaurant above. Three hand pumps on the bar with the now very common line up of Youngs Ordinary, Special and St Austell Proper job, so two Youngs pubs visited on the day at the end of November and no Winter Warmer in sight. The Propper Job was fortunately a well kept pint in consolidation.
Not the type of pub for a decent ale session but if you are after food or visiting Victoria Park in summer then this is a good choice, especially if you can get a spot on the upstairs outside verandas with their excellent views across the park.

Good looking Victorian building opposite a gate leading to Victoria Park, this Youngs pub has had a hipster internal makeover. The entrance has a fine mosaic Crown Hotel inscribed on the floor, but the new layout has led to a modern wooden clad bar to the right, which is surrounded by bench seating with scattered cushions and more undressed wood making up the tables with more traditional wooden chairs.A large staircase leads to a first floor room with no doubt fine views over the park, but this was being used for a private function on my midweek visit.
Past the bar and a bookcase full of board games, the large space is full of mainly dining tables, some butcher block style other old wood and the doors here which would have opened into seperate rooms are largely non functional.Lighting is modern and the muzak was cool but uninspiring.
Three handpumps offering Youngs Ordinary and Special along with St Austell Proper Job (£5,good nick) which is a regular guest in Youngs houses these days.Keg selection was very mainstream and boring.Food is served throughout the day and my fishfinger sandwich was proper pieces of fish lightly battered, good granary bread, straw fries and salad which lived up to it's £9.50 price tag.
For the area this is a pricey pub and aimed squarely at the more affluent, better for a bite to eat rather than a major ale session.

Large pub with room off to the left and the bar opposite the door. Upstairs dining available. Three hand pumps of which Doombore was the strongest.
