4th September 2015:

Right next to Westbourne Park tube, this is quite a spacious open pub with some recently uncovered wonderful pink and cherry red faïence tiling.
The loud music that once played seems to have gone, replaced for the better by more muted tunes. Furniture is conventional with stools to the windows' perimeter beneath which there are beer shelves. There are some leatherette banquettes and metal columns.
Service was fine. My pint of Cottage Brewing Co's Thunderbolt was £3.80, which is good value for the area. It was though a little sour.
This isn't a bad pub and is worth popping in if passing, but I wouldn't make a detour to get here.

----------

Closed and boarded up for some months and recently reopened. We popped in the other night and the pub hasn't had much done to it. It wasn't the most opulent of pubs, but it now looks just a little stripped out with some bare brick, white walls, overly bright caged filament bulbs hanging on long flexes, some of which are red plastic. The net result is that they look like inspection lamps and with the bare brick, the interior looks a bit like a building site. There was some sort of open mic thing going on with crooners massacring tunes - it was like Karaoke From Hell and loud too.
A friendly barmaid presided over just the one ale which was the disappointing Sharp's Cornish Coaster which lived down to expectations.
The Metropolitan seems a little lost. There's little else around here aside from the nearby Union, essentially a crèche for drunken teenagers so the Met is a bit of a lost opportunity.

Wooden Hand Brewery's Cornish Buccaneer was the only ale on during my visit leaving the other two pumps unused. Addlestone Cider, Amstel, Grolsch, Heineken and Kronenburg are also available, but I plumped for the Guinness as I didn't spot anyone else drinking the ale. The barmaid was ok, but I found the scuffed gastro décor a bit depressing and would have sat outside in the nice seating area if it was a little warmer.

I wouldn't bother going here again if passing.
