Owned by Castle Rock and a GBG regular, this street corner pub is an earthy boozer and popular with an ageing bunch of regulars. It retains a two room layout both served from an island bar.The smaller room is dominated by a modern dart board with LED lighting,a sports flatscreen and has bench seating. The bar here will carry the guests ales so it's worth a squint. The large room is L shaped and does have a wall display of all the ales available in small picture frames. Here there is a long bench seating, bar stools, two sports flatscreens both on,another darts board and a pool table around the corner plus a heavy metal juke box.The beer garden outside has pic nic table seating ,some under cover.Darts here is very popular and there was a good Tuesday night team session with a buxom barmaid thrown into the equation.
The selection on my trip was Castle Rock Harvest Pale,Presevation both coming out more clear then my Screech Owl (NBSS 3) while the small room had Black Sheep Bitter,Heritage Firebird,Castle Rock Oatmeal Stout (NBSS 3) and Magesty Platinum Ale and Blue Monkey Primate.Maybe 8 ales on the go is too much to maintain top quality and over two night the crew ,although recognising that Boston and quality real ale are two words that dont go together, were happy to spend an evening in the 'spoons rather than here.Could be better.

Excellent Castle Rock pub with two rooms. I went in the left side which was empty until an annoying woman came in, making all sorts of strange sounds despite her claim to prefer the peace and tranquillity of this room. Aside from that, an excellent choice of real ales, including Screech Owl, which was marvellous. Only downside was they didn't accept debit card payments!! Near the railway station so I will be back in tomorrow.

The Eagle is a Castle Rock pub with predictably two bars and a pool area at the rear. There's a choice of going though doors on the left and right as you enter and I went into the left room as it seemed quieter. This is a fairly small square room with a carpet and a dominant dart board. There were a few older blokes at the bar putting the world to rights.
The beers are split between the two bars with four Castle Rock offerings and seven guests. These were Ilkley Mary Jane Mild, Pennine 2017, Derwent Parson's Pledge, Maypole Celebration, Adnam's Mosaic, Hobgoblin and something I wrote down as Links Don't Be Bitter but can't trace. I went for Castle Rock's own Screech Owl (£3.30) which was excellent.
As expected from Castle Rock this was an excellent traditional pub, the only problem I had with it that all seven guest ales were roughly the same strength 4.0% to 4.5%. Maybe that's what Castle Rock punters go for.
