Not a review as such, but this pub is opening as Brood Hinckley at the Prince of Wales Hinckley on 24 Aug, and has produced a brilliant beer list for a beer festival running from 1 - 4 September.

Recently refurbished by the XT brewery, the Prince of Wales has an odd layout with a small and cosy lounge on the left as you enter, decorated with French pictures and a large open plan area on the right. You then have to turn left and back on yourself to face the bar.
Having done so we were faced with an attractive barmaid, who seemed utterly devoid of humour, and six handpumps. There were one or punters milling around the bar and the open plan area attracted a few people in on a Friday lunchtime. It isn't exactly warm and friendly but probably needs bedding in.
Beer: XT8, XT4, XT XPA, Irving Invincible, Crouch Vale Essex Boys and Brentwood Best were on when we visited with the Invincible being ok and the XPA excellent but both in good condition. An interesting selection of beers this in a town not known for its beer variety.
A very welcome addition in Hinckley and I'll certainly revisit when in the area.

Recently aquired by the XT brewery, there has been a considerable refurb to this interwar years pub, which has created a fine real ale outlet. The exterior has been thoroughly cleaned while the interior retains a cosy snug lounge to the left of the entrance with it's own access to the island bar.Sadly the wood burner is fuelled by gas.To the right is a large open area with sofas and high tables while beyond the bar there is a large fitted banquette and a flatscreen showing BBC News 24.Although it needs to weather in,the interior should appeal to a wide range of customers and bar snacks are available.Besides a number of XT ales there were guests from Crouch Vale,Brentwood and Irving so on this evidence the local midland customer base will get a good selection of southern brewery output, which adds another dimension. My XT 5 was spot on (£3)
I would fully expect this pub to feature in the 2015 GBG,it's a must visit in Hinckley and well worth the long trudge up from the Ashby Canal if that's your mode of transport.A great find.
