A middle-of-nowhere Wadworth outlet that is food-led but nonetheless seems welcoming enough to the roving drinker. Located just over the hump of a narrow country lane north east of Newbury in a picturesque woodland location. Recently refurbished (In May, apparently) to a very high standard, I’d be guessing at least £50k worth of work. Looks lovely for it though; library wallpaper, flagstone and carpeted floor, painted wood panelling etc. The rambling interior has a number of rooms/areas, some for formal dining and others casually set. Function room noted as available for hire. Three Waddies ale on and my choices were in good nick. Friendly barmaid who I think may have taken a shine to me, extra point there. Quite taken with this one despite my general dislike of Wadworth beer and I’d happily pop back.
