This is a Sam Smith's corner pub. It is a fake, but excellently done, as it only dates from around 1990 - although there was a pub of the same name on the site some centuries past. The pub is housed over two buildings, one a three storey Georgian build in white brick, the other in 17th century style, in brick, with stone quoins, window surrounds and a front gable. The pub frontage is in Victorian style, green, with etched glass and pilaters. The interior has a couple of public floors, with the upper one having a function room and lounge bar. The main pub is an L-shaped room, which is in three areas, all being in coffee and brown, with wood floor and red ceiling (with moulding). There is a small snug on entry, with red leather bench seating, after which is the main area, which has green seating, a fireplace and dart board. Down a few steps there is a pool table (50p a game). The walls are covered with old local photos and prints. There is no TV that i saw and there was no music. The service was fine and sadly, just one local was in. Beer; usual Sam Smith's range, with the light MILD (to compliment the dark MILD at the Raikes). I am quite happy to drink Sam Smiths and tried the MILD and stout. This may be a fake interior, but it is fantastically done and an experience in its own right. Well worth a visit - I would definitely return.

Beautifully renovated in classic Victorian style by Sam Smiths. Basically L shaped with a pool room in similar style down a step or two at the far end. Fitted bench seating in green leather upholstery along each wall except by the rather plain fireplace. Cast iron base tables with chairs in the same green leather complete the furnishing. The boards are bare and the light fittings are in a nice 19th century style. The walls are covered in prints and old photos, there's dart board in the corner. Upstairs is a lounge bar and toilets but I didn't explore either. Apart from the cold Sam Smiths keg beers it's like stepping back into the 1880s. Three brass discs on the counter mark the graves of handpumps.
