Beautiful looking thatched cottage building. Sadly the rustic interior wasn’t open for seating (though we did get a couple of minutes inside whilst calls of nature were answered – see Soup’s description below, as it hasn’t changed) so we had to make do with a DIY covered area out back which had a bit more homely charm than some of the plastic tents encountered elsewhere. Two local ales, I went for Piddle Bent Copper which tasted like it sounded, though condition-wise it was fair (NBSS 2.5) - lack of turnover due to low customer numbers I suppose. Had a good gas with the landlady who was an absolute Archers character (‘school mistressy’ I saw elsewhere). In normal times I’d make a point of trying to do this one again as it’s got all the hallmarks of a quintessential village pub that were squashed by a combo of COVID and the govt’s bizarre pub rules. 7.5

What a find this was on our CAMRA coach trip round Salisbury area and called in here on the way home to the Midlands. Friendly locals pub with 3 good ales on. Collyfobble Sup-wiyo, Flack Manor Double Drop and BrightBeer Gold. Unable to trace the BrightBeer brewery but all beers were enjoyed here during our visit.

Another great experience! The standard is even better, food and beer superb. Almost worth moving to Netherhampton just to have it as a local! Charming staff, great beer and good food.

On a recent visit, fortunately a local stopped me walking out, as all the pump clips were turned round. Apparently it's to show customers at the garden hatch what's on offer! In spite of this rather misleading policy, truly wonderful beers were on offer. The beers are constantly changing, so there is usually something new to try! Very good food, and although it might appear a little pretentious (there was a small but loud group of 'Hooray Henries' present on my last visit), the staff are extremely friendly as are most of the locals.

a mid-16th Century thatched country freehouse between Salisbury and Wilton set in a building which can be dated to around 1540-ish, in a small hamelt and bordered by a working farm. The bar rambles a bit and has character which is complemented by a log fire, uneven flag floors and original beams. There is a large enclosed garden to the rear, and dogs are welcomed. There is a regualr pub quiz on alternate Tuesdays. Good quality home-cooked food is usually available. Four ales on, this time I had fff Autumn Daze, beautifully kept, which I followed with a Black Rat cider. Definitely worth coming to for an evening, a meal or just a pint when passing.

A fantastic looking white rendered detached country pub, with thatched roof and porch, with a rear beer garden. In the GBG 2010

The interior is in white and wood panel, with supporting and ceiling beams and whilst open plan, it is divided into three areas by a built partition and by a stone and brick fireplace. The lovely small of the fire pervaded the pub. There were the real traditional trappings of a country pub; the brass ornaments, the jug collection and other ephemera. The service was good; the clientele were completely missing, but it was late on a Tuesday night (After Salisbury v Forest Green) and the music quiet and mixed.

Beer; tap stuff, with a couple of continental lagers. On handpull there was Goddard’s Ale of Wight, Woods Twist Grip and Plain Ales Inntrigue, all of which were decent stuff – though not cheap.

Class – recommended by one of the PG regulars and I am so pleased that I went. Great beer, great pub.

Nice choice of ales, tho three of the four were 5%. Hogs Back RIP, Branscombe Summa That, Slaters High Five, 3 Castles Leap Beer. Lovely slow burning log fire greets you with that great charred wood aroma as you enter & adds an immediate homely feel. The problem was that this out-of-town pub was visted during the Sunday ‘de-brief' and as it is evidently popular for food, esp Sun lunch, ALL tables were reserved for diners, many of which stood empty awaiting arrivals, meaning that drinkers were left with little space at the small and fairly choked bar. It is, however, a lovely thatched building with low beamed ceilings, decorated with brasses, some wooden picnic sets to the front and, standing opposite the church, carries all the trademarks of a great country pub, we were served quickly stayed for a a few. Oh, and that food did look pretty good!
