A short walk from Homerton station, this grand old building has a striking facade with a high pediment bearing the pub's name and a stonework depiction of the eponymous couple set below. A corner entrance takes you into a terrazzo floored bar area with a central bar now essentially serving a single U-shaped room, although a nice bit of leaded window partitioning has been retained to help give the feel of two different front bars. The servery has a dark wood tongue and groove counter with a beautiful stained glass canopy and bar back. There is a bare boarded raised seating area along the left hand wall where some comfy armchairs have been arranged alongside button backed banquettes, all under some fine dark wood panelling. Further back there is a set of battered old chairs around a dark fireplace with a TV screen above, albeit turned off throughout the course of our stay. The ceiling is a talking point in its own right, sporting an elaborate gilded design that really catches the eye. The right hand side of the bar is a little simpler, with standard seating around a nice tiled fireplace in an area decorated with old black and white photos, large mirrors down one side and a pool table to the rear. A back room can be found down in the far left corner of the pub, which is less spectacular than the bar area. Here the room has exposed floorboards and a good deal of banquette and standard seating, including a raised section to the rear near a door for the beer garden. The (literal) centrepiece is an unusual L-shaped pool table which is probably best played after a few pints and there was another TV screen back here, also turned off with indie tunes playing quietly in the background.
The pub seems to be committed to providing a range of ales predominantly from London based brewers, as borne out by the options on this visit which were Hackney Best and American Pale Ale, ELB Jamboree and Pale Ale, Five Points Railway Porter and Bad Co Whiter Shade of Pale. I gave the Porter a try and it was in very good shape and went down a treat. The barman was a friendly chap and chatted about local breweries and gave me an unprompted taster of one of the other beers.
This is a lovely old pub that, despite some hasty remodelling in the past, is well presented and able to convey a sense of its history and former layout. I enjoyed poking around here and thought the place had enough going for it to reward repeat visits. If you're after some well kept local beer in an attractive and friendly setting, you could do a lot worse than this pub which is a must-do on any Hackney/Homerton crawl.

Very well described below, I found this pub welcoming, convivial and pleasant, even though it felt a bit schizophrenic, probably a result of being 2 premises knocked into one without being properly finished. Beers on the 6 handpumps when we visited are as listed by Mr Fastard, below. I had the Whiter Shade of Pale which was in excellent condition and slipped down just a little too easily, vindication of the pub's GBG entry. Highly recommended for inclusion in a crawl.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Adam & Eve

Handsome building with a date of 1915 on the finely detailed faced, with a renovated interior still featuring quite a few items of historical interest. Still partly divided, the 'U'-shaped bar has a raised are to one side, and there is also another large room (with the 'L'-shaped pool table) to the rear. Six handpumps on the counter, mostly offering beers from East London Brewing but I opted for the Bad Co Whiter Shade of Pale (only 3.2%, but had surprising flavour for that strength, £4.00). Beat my expectations, so worth seeking out.

Yes, I liked this one as well and was one of the highlights of our no38 Bus pub Crawl. Large characterful pub well described below which underwent a bit of a makeover in 2014 to turn itself from a working class boozer to something more aligned to appealing to the Hoxton Hipster crowd as the gentrification of recent years moved east. Fortunately for us that meant moving to selling some decent Cask and craft offerings and the six available ales (Hackney APA and Best Bitter, BAD Co. Whiter Shade of Pale, Five Points Railway Porter, and ELB Jamboree and Pale as mentioned below) were complemented by cask offerings mainly from London breweries such as Beavertown and Five Point. Very decent Five points Railway porter and the raised section on the left of the bar was a great spot to drink it with the midday sun streaming through the stained windows.
Not sure what this pub is like of an evening as it is quite dark inside, but on a fine sunny day it was a good spot for a decent beer.

Another good traditional East End boozer with some interesting features and a choice of six handpulled ales. I also went for the ELB Pale Ale, which was top notch. The pub had a relaxed and laidback atmosphere, so I would be quite happy to spend some time in here supping away.

A deceptively large pub that extends back some way, despite its size it retains the feel of a proper boozer and one I quite liked, my ELB Pale Ale was in fine fettle, nice pub.

Dating from at least the early 18th century but rebuilt in 1915, the pub has a fine faience tiled façade with those at the base being grey/blue in colour.
The interior displays lots of dark wood, terrazzo floor and plenty of leaded glass screen remnants with polychromatic glass infill; along the left side is a raised area with conventional furniture. The patterned ceiling (Lyncrusta?) has been sprayed bronze and recently too, judging by the presence of masking tape, yet to be removed. The staff were friendly and dealt swiftly with the Barbarian Horde with which they were presented.
My half of Hackney Brewery's APA was fine, though at £2.00 is a lot for the area.
Certainly worth a visit if in the area and a couple of notches above The Jackdaw & Star, opposite.

This is a large rambling pub with various interconnected areas. Remnants of the original layout are evident with such things as a remaining upper section of a leaded glass screen and the lines on the mosaic floor showing where the partitions and indeed the bar itself, once were. Unusual to note that the pub was established in 1915, during the war when I'd imagine most available labour and indeed potential customers were in France and Belgium but I suppose the older craftsmen remained at home.
The bar is centrally located in the front area of the pub, a slightly raised area to the left side and an area with wood panelling, clear glass mirrors and a pool and darts area on the right, an elaborate gilded ceiling and beams which looked splendid, the pub is further enhanced by some quality stained glass to the entrance lobby and a skylight. Beyond the bar, to the rear is another large room with a garden beyond, there is a curious L-shaped pool table in here, bet you can set some fiendish snookers on that.
Excellent and efficient service here especially as around 20 of us appeared at once without warning, beers as listed by BF below. Food served with a few themed nights listed and seemingly an ethical sourcing policy.
A very nice pub indeed with some great features and a fine range of beers, I could lose a lot of time in here given the chance.

A very interesting interior to this 1915 built pub, situated mid terrace on the High Street. The bar is central, with two wings either side.To the left is a raised section while to the right there is further seating, lots of wood panelling throughout. The ceiling has a gold finish, while to the rear there is a large room, housing a quirky L shaped pool table, and ,further back, what looks like a small dining area. It's good to see a large interior which hasn't been completely opened out,and there was a friendly welcome from behind the bar for the large crawl which descended.
There were six handpumps drawing Hackney APA and Best Bitter,BAD Co. Whiter Shade of Pale,Five Points Railway Porter, and ELB Jamboree and Pale (very decent).A good selection with lots of Locale,I will certainly return and spend more time in the relaxing atmosphere.

The Adam and Eve is set in a terrace of shops.
Once inside there is what i think is now a single room with the bar situated in the middle of it,there is a raised area to the left which had normal tables and chairs, there were more normal tables and chairs down the right side, there was a pool table to the rear right.
There was a good choice of real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Tintagel Castle Blonde which went down well, the other beers i noted were Sambrooks Junction /Wandle and beers from 5 Point and Tintagel.
The pub was very busy on my mid to late Saturday afternoon visit,i thought the background music was pretty crap on my visit.
