The Ship Inn apparently dates back to the 1600's,but has obviously had a few bits tacked on to it over the years,In 1860 a famous bare knuckle fight between British national champion Tom Sayers and US champ John Heenan, took place in a field behind the pub, after 40 rounds it was controversially scored as a draw. The Pub is basically a two roomed place ,the front bar being the main drinking area, mostly wooden floored with mixed seating throughout, there are a couple of TV screens for sport,a jukebox and a pool table in the rear room.On the bar are three pumps, two were in use with a rather bland duo of Doombar and Youngs Special, although not that special nowadays the Youngs beer was served in good condition, usual keg offerings were in abundance also. The customers on my late afternoon visit were all male and mostly tradesmen grabbing an after work beer or two. Its an OK pub but the current beer selection is not likely to entice me back to soon.

Looks nice on the outside so I took a photo. Felt a bit threatening going in, as soon as I walked in the door I was asked, in a not very fiendly manner, "What are you taking a picture of?" After that, I got my Guinness and sat in the corner quietly. Anyway sells real ale.
