Only popped in this one because of the fact that it is indeed handy for the shops, so when your better half is stuck in these it’s the lazy no effort option to divert here for a pint. However things haven’t changed at all post Covid and despite there being five hand pumps it’s still Pedigree only. Two pumps were dispensing it but having differing designs of Marston’s Pedigree pump clips and I didn’t have the energy to ask why..
The Pedigree was fine and the kindest thing I can say about this one is that it serves a purpose but I immediately regretted not investing in the additional minute to walk around the corner and revisit the Dog.

A back street local in the town centre, handy for the shops and buses. There was some loud music playing when I entered, but this isn't a young persons pub by any means. Quite the opposite, as there were very few customers younger than me. It was quite busy early Friday afternoon, with groups of men and women, some of them happy to welcome a stranger to their local. There are five hand pumps on the bar, but only Pedigree available. It was in very good condition, so I was happy to stop here for a few minutes having a chat with people at the bar as they passed.

I was getting bored of Pedigree by now but had a ten minute wait for a bus so nipped in here. And yes, Pedigree it was. One room with toilets to the rear.

Large open plan town centre pub owned by Marstons so five pumps but only a reasonable Pedigree available. Deeply modernised but retaining the old furniture is probably the best description, the details are of course as Soup Dragon’s masterful précis says. I wouldn’t disagree with his overall assessment either.

A Victorian terraced Marston's pub and eatery with a rear patio area. The pub seems to consist of a three-storey and an ajoining two-storey element, part of which is now a chippy, with an arch for horse traffic. The pub is in white render, with red painted sills and lintles around the windows and a ground floor in red paintwork, with modern anchor etched windows.

The interior has an L-shaped room around the serving bar that faces you on entry. The decor is a mix of white, exposed brick and some wood panel, with a carpet and fake tile mixed floor and white ceiling. The bar area is at the front and has a brick fireplace with a Victorian looking grate. It has a dart board, a TV (not on at my visit) and a few Marstons pictures - though it looks a little bare on the walls. The back of the pub is a dining area, with bistro art. There was no music. The service was fine and the place had a locals feel - it had a busy mixed clientele.

Beer; usual tap stuff with a decent enough Marston's Pedigree on handpull.

A better than basic town centre pub as it does food and has a real ale. A place to pop into for one for me.
